Meet Dr. Mukarram Razvi: Pain Relief in Northern New Jersey

Hi, I'm Dr. Mukarram Razvi, medical director of Paragon Osteopathy. My clinic is located right in Parsippany, NJ, making it an easy trip for anyone in North Jersey and surrounding areas. My focus is simple: I help you get lasting pain relief through hands-on, whole-body care — not just a prescription and a "see you next year.”

Here's a quick tour of what I do, how I was trained, and what to expect when you come see me.

My Background

I started out with a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering so I approach problems in a logical, step-by-step way. I earned my medical degree from Rowan University in New Jersey, and I'm board certified in family medicine.

After that, I did an extra year of training focused specifically on nerves, muscles, and joints (the technical name for it is osteopathic neuromusculoskeletal medicine), which means I'm trained to identify what's actually causing your pain, not just treat the symptom.

What Makes Osteopathic Medicine Different?

You may have heard the term "DO" and wondered how it's different from "MD." The schooling is very similar — same amount of med school, same residency requirements. The difference is that DOs also get trained in a particular mindset about the body, plus hands-on treatment skills that MDs typically don't learn.

A few things guide how I practice:

You're not just a diagnosis or a case. Stress, sleep, relationships, and daily habits all affect how your body heals, so I take the whole picture into account, not just the sore spot.

Your body wants to heal itself, it just needs the right conditions. A small cut heals on its own because your body has what it needs. Chronic pain is more complicated, and my job is figuring out what's standing in the way of your body healing itself.

What you feel and what I can feel usually match up. If something feels "off" in your body, there's often a physical change I can actually pinpoint with my hands.

Problem-solving should be careful and methodical. This is where my engineering background comes in handy because I like to work through possibilities logically instead of guessing.

I also have thousands of hours of hands-on treatment experience using a set of 12 different techniques collectively called osteopathic manipulative treatment (OMT), which is essentially using my hands to find and correct the physical source of your pain.

Regenerative Medicine: Helping Your Body Heal Itself

Beyond hands-on treatment, I also offer regenerative medicine — a newer approach that works with your body's own healing response instead of just masking pain.

Here's the basic idea: your body heals well from small, controlled injuries (think of how a workout makes muscle stronger). I use that same principle by introducing a small, targeted amount of irritation into an area that's stuck in chronic pain and hasn't healed on its own. Depending on your situation, that might look like:

Prolotherapy: using a simple sugar-water solution

PRP (platelet-rich plasma): using platelets from your own blood

Stem cell therapy: using cells that can actually help rebuild tissue (not currently offered at this location)

This approach works especially well for knee arthritis, low back ligament issues, and rotator cuff tendon problems (a common source of shoulder pain).

Conditions I Treat

Patients from all over Northern New Jersey come to me for issues like:

  • Short-term injuries and long-term, chronic pain anywhere in the body

  • Migraines and tension headaches

  • Pinched nerves, including carpal tunnel syndrome and sciatica

  • Whiplash and concussions from car accidents

  • Low back pain or other issues during pregnancy

  • Mild head shape asymmetry in newborns. Most improve on their own by age one, but gentle, precise treatment can speed that along.

How I Approach Your Care

A few things I try to hold myself to with every patient:

I'll be thorough, but I won't overwhelm you with information you don't need.

I want to be your long-term partner in this, not a one-time visit.

I'll look for the real barriers holding back your healing — I won't just blame "getting older" or "sleeping wrong."

My goal with every technique is better blood flow and better mobility, so your body keeps healing while you sleep, not just while you're in my office.

I also believe less is often more. Instead of handing you a 15-exercise routine, I'll usually pick 1 or 2 exercises that matter most — something you can realistically do for 2 minutes a day rather than 15 minutes once a week. Nutrition matters too, so we'll often talk about small changes like cutting added sugar and eating more fiber. And I always encourage some form of stress relief — meditation, yoga, prayer, journaling, whatever works for you. The more of these pieces you can bring together, the better your results tend to be.
